Anyone ever downloaded editing software off the internet? Which is the best site to do this from and is there anything I should know first?

Depends if you're Mac or PC.
On the Mac 'Limewire' is good - www.limewire.com

Is limewire working good in the UK? It's gotten slower than a one legged dog here. Macs are great for most stuff, but I can't get a lot of selection nor are there fast download times. Anything better?

Yes, Limewire is slow here too.
Don't really know of the alternatives (is Gnutella one?)

http://www.puremotion.com do EditStudio3 as a download to trial and then unlock with a paid key.
It is straight forward to use. Uses time line editing. There are a number of magazines with an older version EditStudio2 on the front cover. As that is what I am still using it is a cheap way in.
It is certainly easier to get into than Premier, but of course does not have all the features. From all the trials I have had a go at it is certainly by far the best of the budget bunch.
They also have an excellent forum where queried, comments and problems are answered quickly and competently.
I think it is British so I expect it to go the same way as Autoroute - over to Seattle.

There are packs of 50 CD-R's from Packard Bell who include Pinnacle Studio 7 SE for free. Cost ?20 and available at PC World. Not bad and legal. On a Mac iMovie 2 is very useful unless you're after wicked special f/x.
